3 Questions to Ask This Morning

Last night I had a dream.

Not like the ones I usually have. This one was strange.

So, I told you guys that I love asking questions… Well, in my dream I had an event. During the event, I had torn three large pieces of paper and wrote a question on each of them. WEIRD RIGHT?

These were the questions:

Who are you?

Where do you want to go?

How will you get there?

Woah. Was it a sign? In the dream, I had people writing out what they believed was true to them. I was guiding them through and telling them the following things:

“There is no judgement in what you write”

“Don’t base your answers on what other people have said. This is for you and your answers may look nothing like other people’s.”

Right after this, my alarm went off.

What do you think about dreams like this?

Happy Monday!

Running Out of Things to Blog About?

It is so easy to write when you start your blog.

I remember the first two months of starting my blog, I was writing virtually every single day and sometimes even twice a day. I remember reading other bloggers posts saying things like “sorry I haven’t posted in a while, my new goal is to post once a week” I was like what! How could you not find things to write about?!

Then it happened- I got writer’s block. And the everyday struggle was thinking “What should I write about?”

Last week, I met with a freelance writer. She’s written for MSNBC, Refinery 29, and other very well-known publications.

When we got to chatting, I told her my problem:

“It was so easy writing when I started! But now I feel like writing less and less. I don’t even know what to talk about.”

Can you relate?

Well here’s the advice she gave me-

“Some of my favorite bloggers don’t even write everyday. They pick certain days to post. It’s about the consistency. Find the same day every week to post and find something unique to post about so people will be looking for your posts on that specific day every week.”

She showed me a blogger who literally just creates posts with links to her favorite articles every Tuesday. Like what?! I could do something like this. It sounds doable.

Find something that makes your blog unique and make it a weekly post.

I love this advice.

What do you do to ensure you have things to write about and don’t go MIA for months?

Let me know!

The Secret to Getting Out of a Rut

Start.

I’m kidding, but kind of not..

Do you ever skip a day at the gym which then turns into a week of┬áskipping and then the next think you know you haven’t gone for two months? Yeah, that.

Why is it that it is so easy for a cheat day to snowball into a cheat year? Or for a day of being a couch potato to turn into a couch potato lifestyle?

I am going to admit- this has been me for the past week. Before that, I was on my grind for like a month! I was meal prepping, doing workouts at home AND at the gym, I was waking up early, and was almost never on social media. Living my best life.

So, what changed that? A change in routine. I love and hate routines at the same time. Routine holds me accountable, but it can get boring.

What was the result of a change in routine? A change in priorities and endless excuses as to why I wasn’t being as productive as I could be.

Can you relate? Keep reading,

So today was my first day back at the gym. What steps did I take to get out of the rut I’ve been in for weeks?

The first: Reflecting.

How good did I feel when I was going to the gym nearly every day? How lazy did I feel when I slowly stopped? Which of the two feelings do I prefer? What’s more worth it for me and what aligns most with my long term goals?

The second: Realizing the excuses I was making took more energy than the things I was making excuses for.

It takes so much energy to come up with excuses for yourself. The common excuse for me has been “I don’t have time” REALLLLLY? So, I had time to watch netflix and go out and scroll through every single social media platform but not workout for even 30 minutes? yeahhhh ok.

The third: Really and truly just showing up.

Instead of thinking too much about how hard the task will be, just begin. Create the word document, write out the list of ideas, make a to-do list, just show up at the gym. Don’t think about the details too much- START! I read this quote earlier this week and it said “worrying about something before it even happens is basically putting yourself through the pain of the event twice”. So very true.

So today, when I went to the gym, I brought my iPad and responded to emails while on the elliptical. Since I hadn’t been to the gym in weeks, I thought I would take it easy, but ended up running for 45 minutes! It felt so good.

I promise once you take the first steps in getting back into a routine you’ll truly wonder why you ever stopped.

The hardest part is just to start and it’s all in your head. Stop the excuses and do it.

You know you will feel so much better accomplishing what you’ve been putting off than continuing to make excuses.

Does anyone else have any tricks they use to get out of a rut? I would love to hear!

3 Ways to Have a Happier And More Productive Day

happy_nature_green

Ever have one of those days? The kind where you just can’t seem to focus. Every task throughout your day feels like a chore and every conversation just feels boring and drawn out.

I definitely have. In fact, I felt like that this morning. I sat in class and slouched in my seat. Can this day be over yet? I began to watch the clock.

Why did I feel like this today?

I thought back to the days when I felt all the energy and was excited about being productive.

What did I do differently?

It hit me.

The days when I’m happiest and most productive are usually the days when I do these three things:

This Mindset Will Change Your Life

DSC_0112

What situations do you feel most comfortable in?

The ones that are familiar and rarely challenge you, right? Where you are content with being as is.

What situations scare you?

Most times, it’s in those unfamiliar situations. Places where people know more than you, there are conversations going on that you have never heard before, and the places where you start questioning your own ideas and habits.

In these moments, it’s easy to resort to thoughts like wow these people are just smarter and better than me and wish you were back in your safe spaces.┬áTrust me, I have been there.

But, you know what? Those thoughts come from a place of fear. A fear of trying- yet not being good enough..

Sucks, right? I know.

What I can tell you with 100% certainty is this:

Who you are today is not a permanent state of being.

The situations where you are the most uncomfortable are truly helping you grow (growing pains). Yes it’s scary, but how can you get to where you want to be if you do the same things every day?

Remember this- What you know this year is far more than what you knew last year. Your knowledge and experience is up to you. The more new experiences that you immerse yourself in, the quicker you will grow and learn.

No one was just born with knowledge and experience. Those things are built over time and it’s up to you to decide at which speed.

So in order to grow, you must realize that you can.

Simple as that.

What you may not know today, you can learn tomorrow. And just because you don’t know something right now, doesn’t mean you won’t ever know it.

You are constantly growing and becoming a different version of yourself.

How are you going to look at your life from day to day? Find new growth opportunities daily.

I promise you’ll be uncomfortable, but it will be so worth it. I promise.

Thanks for reading & remember invest time into yourself.

You are worth it.

What Do You Choose To Believe?

IMG_5019

How do you connect and see the experiences in your life?

What is your role in your life story?

How did you get to where you are today?

Your answers to these questions are what you have chosen to believe.

How crazy is it that you can go through the same experience as someone else, yet neither of you will ever describe it in the same way?

Your life is your perception of it.

What is your story and how are you going to tell it?

How you view your past is telling of how your future will be. Do you feel that your past life experiences have been unfair? You will likely continue to feel this way about future experiences as well. You need to change your beliefs to change what you experience.

Did you know that there are millions of contradicting beliefs out there?

Which ones will you choose to believe?

The ideas that empower you or the ones that fit your pitty story?

Do you want to live guided by your hopes or fears?

Choose your beliefs wisely and have a happy day čÖé

Just Show Up

NJDN5789

Ahhh. This is the most difficult part though right? To just show up.

Have you ever agreed to do something and right up to the point where you know you have to go you just internally debate whether you should or not?

Just show up.

Don’t think about the details right now.

Just show up.

Today, this woman who came in to speak at the club I’m in said something that really resonated with me. She said this:

“Every day you create your brand. What you say you will do should align with what you actually do. Every day counts.”

Just show up.

ummm… Show up for?

Show up for your friends

“True friends are those who are there for your big moments and your bad moments”. Show up for the people you care about. It means more to them than you can ever imagine. Just your presence alone. Be there for the moments you wish they would be there for if you were in their shoes.

Show up for the promises you made

Do you ever make promises months in advance and when it nears the date you just feel like backing out? Don’t. Follow through. Maybe in the future you won’t agree to the same thing again, but be the person who is true to their word. It goes a long way.

And last but not least, show up for yourself

What do you want? What are your goals? Show up for them. Go to the gym if you want to exercise more. Commit to yourself. Take an hour to practice your art every day. Who do you want to be? Show up for it and make yourself proud. Your soul will thank you.

XO,
