If you’re reading this right now, there’s a reason. The same goes for everyone you’ve met.
You may have heard the over-used phrase that every person you meet is either a lesson or a blessing. Regardless of if this is true or not, there is no mistake in who crosses your path.
Tonight, I crossed paths with someone who re-sparked a light in me. Has this ever happened to you? It happens in the most unexpected moments, doesn’t it?
The woman who re-sparked this light deserves credit: Dr. Verna Price.
She is… Bold.
Every word she spoke was everything that I needed to hear.
Who would I be if I didn’t share with others?
Before tonight, I had no motivation. I stopped doing the things I loved. She helped me realize that.
So while I wish I could just copy and paste everything that she said, I can’t. I did, however, take notes. A lot of them.
Here are a few of them:
- You are not depressed or stressed.. you need to get up and figure it out. Be bold.
- The reason you’re not succeeding is because you are telling yourself that you won’t.
- The sign of a great leader is someone who knows themselves well enough to follow themselves.
- Pay attention to what’s coming out of your mouth and your heart
- Who you are in private is the most important
- And finally… our destiny is intertwined with everyone we meet
Everyone who was in the room during her speech was in there for a reason.
Pay close attention to the messages around you and the people who surround you. What purpose do they serve?
Thanks for reading.
This is something that has been so incredibly prominent in my daily life now more than ever.
So much so that I have joined a Women in Business Club, joined a couple of Girl Boss Blogging Groups, etc.
It’s easy, as women, to see other women as a threat or competition, but in reality we should be working together.
As I am becoming a young professional, I’m beginning to realize that we need to encourage each other more and more. Joining new groups has opened my eyes to how much potential we have for change.
Today, in the Women In Business meeting I attended, the topic of conversation was:
“Let’s Be Real- About Our Fears”
In this conversation, we discussed our big picture goals and the fears that come with striving for them.
For me, I have always been concerned with the “work/life balance”. Being in this group, it was comforting to know I was not alone in this worry. Many other women voiced the stress that comes with thinking about having a family while striving to become a successful career woman. Other women talked about their choice not to have children and the negative comments that they have received from voicing this. Sadly, these are things many women worry about.
So, being in a group with ambitious women and being able to have open conversations with each other about our dreams and fears is huge. We all have fears and knowing that you have an amazing support group who mutually encourages each other makes working through them much easier.
I want to end this blog post with a Ted Talk that was introduced at the beginning of the meeting. Just some food for thought and advice from the chief operating officer of Facebook and founder of Leanin.org. Definitely check it out!
Tomorrow I will post about Podcasts that are based around empowering women- I have been obsessed lately!
Thanks for reading. Let’s inspire and encourage each other today.
